GRATITUDE IS A MEMORY OF THE HEART

Joseph F Smith said "the spirit of gratitude is always pleasant and satisfying because it carries with it a sense of helpfulness to others; it begets love and friendship, and engenders divine influence.  Gratitude is said to be the memory of the heart"
Spencer W Kimball said " Those who keep a book of remembrance are more likely to keep the Lord in remembrance in their daily lives.  Journals are a way of counting our blessings and of leaving an inventory of these blessings for our posterity."
As you write you could ask yourself "How did God bless me today?"  If you do that long enough and with faith, you will find yourself remembering blessings.  And sometimes you will have gifts brought to your mind that you failed to notice during the day, but which you will then know were a touch of God's hand in your life.
We can go to a sacrament meeting and hear the words "always remember Him".....then make a pledge and do just that.  The Holy Ghost will help us remember.
Remembrance is the seed of gratitude which is the seed of generosity.  Gratitude for the remission of sins is the seed of charity, the pure love of Christ.  And so God has made possible for you and me this blessing, a change in our very natures:
"And the remission of sins bringeth meekness and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God"  Moroni 8:26
As we remember and are grateful, our hearts are touched to do much good, for which we are blessed. Gratitude is a memory of the heart.

Grateful for a wonderful husband and companion who tries to play the piano and tricks the other Elders into thinking he really can play, when actually, he only knows 2 songs (and they heard both of them)  The question still remains:  Is he hiding a talent under a bushel?  Hummmm.  You decide

Grateful for missionaries who sang their hearts out at the busy intersection of the Croisee in San Juan, Trinidad.  We sang Christmas carols and passed out candy canes and "pass-along cards".  Folks stopped to listen and sing along with us.  It was such fun!!  Wish we could have stayed longer, but the rain began to pour buckets on us.

Grateful for Thanksgiving dinner with 70 of our missionary family.  Grateful for turkey and stuffing and pies!!!!  It beats eating "doubles and roti",  hands down!!!! (doubles and roti are local favorites)

Grateful for good cooks that literally performed miracles in the kitchen.  Thanks Sisters Monson and Mehr

 Grateful, especially for Sister Grigg, who we will miss greatly because we have been transferred to Grenada.  This is the life of a missionary....transfers......

Grateful to have Thanksgiving dinner with our wonderful friends on the evening of Thanksgiving after a long day in the office!

Grateful to be in Grenada now with the cute Cummings family and a lot of American medical students, like CC Boyack.

 Very grateful that Grenada has colorful homes just like Trinidad!!
